August 19th, 2009

We had our first class today, in a room with no windows, a concrete wall and lots of information about fire science. Most of the time was spent outlining what we have in store for the coming semester. We talked about mapping (layout, blueprint, putting something together), concepts (light, space, rhythm) and the poetics of architecture.
The poetics of architecture delve into areas of metaphor. We can see architecture as more than just building  but also as beauty, nature, intimacy and experimentation and should consider building from the outside in, instead of from the inside out.
It seems we have a lot of reading to do in this class. My book has been in transit for about three weeks. Hopefully it'll get here soon.
